Gate Measuring Guide
Where To Measure
Where To Measure
You do not need to worry about the size of the gate itself. At Gates and Railings Direct we take care of that. All you need to do is follow the Gate Measuring Guide to measure the space that the gate will occupy.
- Measure the height from the ground up to the top of your pillar or bottom of your coping stone.
- Just measure straight from pillar to pillar or post to post.
- Do not allow for any clearances between the supporting pillars, posts or the opening, as we do this for you.
- If you look at the diagram above you will see exactly where you need to take your measurements from.
- Should you require more than one gate, use the same Gate Measuring Guide above and measure each opening separately.
Do Not Allow For Clearances
Do not allow for any clearances(we do this for you). Simply measure straight from pillar to pillar or post to post.
- Measure the height from the ground up to the top of the wall or the bottom of your coping stone.
- Even if you don’t require any posts, we still need the full size of the gap.
- If you are still unsure then don’t hesitate to drop us a quick call or a message via the contact page.
A member of our team will be more than happy to help with any queries you may have. - We appreciate that you still maybe be a little unsure as to what or where to measure. If this is the case send us a photograph and we will mark on exactly where you need to take your measurements from.
If you are still unsure or have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
If You Require Posts
If you require posts (either wall mounted or bellow ground) we still need the full size of the gap. From there Gates and Railings Direct will do all the work for you. You can select posts when placing your order.

What We Allow For Clearances
- We allow 5cm or 50mm for the bottom of the gate.
- We allow 15cm or 150mm horizontally for the hinges and latch.
